SOAR – What Happens Next?

Over 1,500 East Kentuckians were ready to talk about solutions for transforming the region’s sagging economy when they showed up in Pikeville on Dec. 9th to take part in the SOAR – Shaping Our Appalachian Region – Summit.  A highlight for many was Joe and Tony Sertich’s presentation about revitalization efforts in Minnesota’s Iron Range, including creation of a permanent “rainy day” fund for development as mining declines. WMMT talked to a number of folks about their expectations and hopes for going forward. As MACED President Justin Maxson said, “What matters is what happens next.”
